My diagram above was inspired by a speech in 1930 to the Typographer’s Guild called The Crystal Goblet: or Printing should be Invisible, by book designer Beatrice Warde. I believe the wine-taster’s goblet as a metaphor for clarity in design is even more relevant today in digital media.
